Over 60% of Instagram’s daily active users use Instagram Stories, making them an essential component of any successful Instagram strategy. IG Stories can act as a way for your followers to get to know you more personally, they can help you increase interactions and engagements and understand what your fans want to see – they can help extend your brand across your channels, or they can just be a place for you to document the daily. Instagram Stories are, of course, a visual medium, and there are ways you can spice them up to make them aesthetically and visually appealing (This shows your followers how much effort you put into your content). In today’s Instagram toolkit, we’re running through how to add multiple pictures to an Instagram Story, with a few tips and tricks you can implement which might just make your Stories THE place to be on the gram.

How to put Multiple Pictures on an Instagram Story

There are different ways to add multiple pictures to an Instagram Story on both iOS and Android, but let’s start with the simplest, first.

How to add multiple photos to an Instagram Story using layouts 📒

Instagram (handily) has a feature that allows you to use pre-existing templates and frames, where you can upload your content directly in Stories. Just open your Stories, and select the ‘layout’ option on the left-hand side.
From here, you can select the type of ‘grid’ you want to use, with an option to add a maximum of 6 photos to one Story, and a minimum of 2.

From here, you can either take a photo to upload in each frame in real-time, or you can upload photos you already have to make a collage. From here, you can make it even more interactive and visual by adding text, stickers, CTAs, polls – you name it!

💡 Here are a few ideas for Instagram Stories you can use layouts for:
  1. Before/After Stories
  2. ‘This or that’ polls, where your followers can vote for their favorite image
  3. My life in a day, featuring a collage of images that create a daily diary

How to add multiple photos to an Instagram Story manually 📲

If you don’t want to use a pre-existing layout and prefer to create a more stylized Instagram Story with multiple pictures you can do this in a more ‘manual’ way.
First thing’s first, choose your ‘background’ image, or the image you want to add first. To add a picture to your Story, just click the ‘sticker button’ and navigate to your camera roll.
Select the picture you want to use, and drag to reposition/resize. Once you’re happy with its positioning, repeat the process to add more images.
To bring a picture to the foreground, just tap it! Add any stickers, texts or CTAs you like, and publish!

…And here’s how to do it using a free design tool! 🎉

If you aren’t wedded to creating your Instagram Stories on the platform itself, you can also use a free design tool like Canva to create your Stories ahead of time. This gives you a few more options when it comes to creating animations, adding in videos, and developing a more ‘designed’ aesthetic. Canva has multiple templates you can pick from, to drag your images into and change/alter the text that is pre-designed. Or, you can think up your own design by selecting the option to create a ‘blank Instagram Story.’

Finally, here’s how to put multiple question responses on a Story!❓

Polls and question stickers are a great way to jazz up your Stories and get feedback/engagement from our audience. On Instagram, you can usually only share one question response at a time, which means you can’t show multiple responses on one frame. There is a handy trick you can use if you want to get all of your responses on one Story slide (though it is a little manual!).
Firstly you’ll want to pick a response, click share response, and select the background you’ll use (usually we’d suggest just a solid color background). Once you’re happy, select the ‘save button’ at the top of the Story editor:

Discard the Story, and create a new Story, this time, clicking a different response to share. Upload the Story you just saved above as the background to your new Story, and drag/reposition the question response sticker. Repeat the process until you’ve added all the stickers you want!
