Instagram finally did it! We can officially reset our Instagram feed—that definitely didn’t take forever. Not.
Earlier this week, Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri,
took to his Instagram Reels to explain the new feature. He explained that it’s been a long time coming (stating the obvious), and
Instagram is currently testing the ability to reset and refresh the recommendations on the app. Well, if your feed has started to feel a bit stale or the recommendations in your feed or Explore Page have felt like they don’t really fit what you’re interested in, you can now completely reset the content. What this will do is retrain the algorithm to provide you content that you want to see. As you like, comment, and share more posts on the platform, Instagram will be able to recognize the content you enjoy and recommend more and more.
And, in turn, helps Instagram keep users on the platform for longer—its ultimate goal.
However, Mosseri did warn users that this feature isn’t to be taken lightly. Resetting your Instagram recommendations means that your feed is going to be boring AF at first until Instagram recognizes what you want.
TikTok released a similar feature last year, so what took Instagram so long to jump on the bandwagon, especially as this is something it seems a lot of users want and need?
Now, as you clicked on this article, I am sure you’re here to find out how to
reset your recommendations (obviously). Here’s exactly how to do just that:
How to reset your Instagram feed
Open your Instagram
Go to your profile
At the top right-hand corner, click the hamburger menu (three lines)
In settings, scroll until you find Suggested Content
Open Suggested Content, and click “Reset Suggested Content”
Click “Next”
Select “Reset suggested content”
And voila! You’re done.
Now, this isn’t available to everyone just yet so don’t freak out if you’re not seeing it in your settings yet.
Are there more ways to reset the Instagram algorithm?
There are definitely ways for you to reset and let Instagram know what you are and aren’t interested in on your feed. Instagram has been steadily rolling out new features to help you tailor the feed to what you want.
Interested/Not Interested
When a post or Reel pops up on your feed or
Explore Page, let Instagram know what you think about it! By clicking on the three dots next to the image,
you can click “Interested” or “Not Interested.” By doing this, it lets Instagram know what kind of content to continue sharing with you or to stop. When you utilize this feature enough, you will start seeing content you enjoy more and more and content you dislike less and less.
Specific Words and Phrases
Head to your settings and click on “Suggested Content.” From here, you will see “Specific Words and Phrases.” If you have anything you don’t want to see on your feed, type it in here! Say you don’t like a certain celebrity or band, type their name in this section. Don’t want to see fashion or Paris on your feed? Type it here! Instagram will stop showing you any content that you’ve added here.
We hope these tips help you, and you start having your Instagram feed and algorithm perfectly tailored to you.
